A Tale of Survival and Tragedy
In a devastating twist of fate, Drew Kohn, a 30-year-old Florida man celebrated as a “modern-day miracle” after awakening from a 244-day coma, was struck and killed by a pickup truck.
A miraculous recovery
Kohn was involved in a severe motorcycle accident in 2017, which left him in a deep coma with a traumatic brain injury. Defying all odds, he awoke after eight months, stunning doctors who had considered harvesting his organs. His mother, Yolanda Osborne-Kohn, credited her unwavering faith for his recovery. “They would have harvested his organs,” she told WTLV-TV News. “It was because of my faith that gave me the boldness to speak up.”
A tragic end
On Friday, Kohn was hit by a pickup truck while walking on Collins Road in Jacksonville around 5:30 am. The driver, who did not see Kohn, called 911, but it was too late; Kohn was pronounced dead at the scene. Despite the tragedy, his mother expressed gratitude for the additional years she had with her son. “God honored my request, and I’m not mad. I’m at peace,” she said. “I got seven years.”
Yolanda believes her son is now in heaven, free from suffering. “Drew is healed, walking, not struggling to keep his balance,” she said. “His arm is probably lifted so high, saying, ‘Thank you, Jesus!’ Drew probably has a football in one hand and a Bible in the other.”
